In Memory of Monticello “Monti” Hazzard Campbell
Gifts made in memory of Monti will go to The Victoria Warner Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Victoria Warner Fund provides scholarships to Bachelor of Social Work graduates from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University who are candidates for a Master of Social Work degree at Florida State University.
Monti Campbell was among the first Black social workers in Pinellas County during a time when segregation still siloed professionals and those they served by race. Over 36 years as a school social worker, she provided leadership during the integration of schools and the expansion of services to children and families under President Johnson's War on Poverty. Her local and national impact on the social work profession left a legacy marked by love, service and humanitarianism. Throughout her rewarding career, she held various roles such as Head Start teacher and director, Head Start trainer at the University of South Florida, YWCA program director and Pinellas County Anti-Poverty Agency coordinator. Notably, she authored the grant for Pinellas County Head Start, as well as Neighborhood Youth Corp, Upward Bound at Eckerd College and School-Community Coordinator for Title I schools. As a role model and mentor to aspiring social workers, Monti Campbell’s influence will endure for generations.
